Anxiety over things can lead to decisions to act in ways that are harmful to us. Anxiety comes when we are not confident that things in our lives will work together for our good. It is often the case that we do not know what the good is. Derek Chauvin the white policeman that killed George Floyd did so because this tall strong Black man created a ton of anxiety. Chauvin killed Floyd because he did not make the right decision on how to handle the situation. We can label him racist and filled with hate for Black people. While this is certainly a factor, we cannot deny the fact that Chauvin has been conditioned to believe that Black men are dangerous. The only solution for dealing with Black men is to control them even if it means violence and murder. It is obvious that Chauvin was acting according to his own understanding.
The preacher in the book of Proverbs advises us to trust God in everything. The knowledge and understanding that comes from God is to be trusted above what we know and think. In any situation we must trust the thoughts and ways of the Lord above our own thoughts and ways. If we acknowledge the Lord’s thoughts and ways are far better than our own, we will be directed to the right path; that is the course of action that is to be preferred.
We cannot always trust ourselves. We are limited in our thoughts and ways in all circumstances. If we trust the Lord we will look to Him in prayer and bible study so that our paths will be made straight.
Prayer: Lord we trust you in all things that give us anxiety and worry. Amen.
