MINISTRY
My ministry is manifested in four ways:
PREACHING
I have been blessed to be called by God to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. The primary purpose of preaching is to proclaim to the world that Jesus died on the cross so that God will forgive the sins of everyone who accept the free gift of salvation. Preaching is not limited to the church setting. Preaching can take place anywhere that God provides an opportunity to tell people that God loves them personally, and He desires to be reconciled to all people. My motivation for preaching is found in the words of Paul: “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek” (Rom. 1:16, NASB).
TEACHING
I have been teaching in the church since 1973. I thought of teaching as only something that I had the ability to do and something that the church needed to do. It was not until I was at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary that I became aware that teaching God’s Word was a component of the ministry that God called me to do. Teaching is helping people to gain knowledge and understanding of how God wants them to live as disciples of Jesus I am motivated to teach by two scriptures: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Matt. 28:19-20, NASN). “So Jesus was saying to those who had believed Him, ‘If you continue in my word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free’” (John 8:31-32, NASB).
NURSING
Nursing has been my career by which God has blessed me to earn an income to live by. Nursing is also the means by which I have been given to make known the love of Jesus in a tangible and personal way. I believe that that our physical health and our spiritual well-being work in an interdependent union. I am particularly motivated by the healing of the paralytic man in Mark 2:3-12. Four men brought a physically sick man to Jesus. Jesus healed the man of his physical condition and forgave the man of his sins. “Afterward Jesus found him in the temple and said to him, “behold, you have become well; do not sin anymore, so that nothing worse happens to you’” (John 5:14, NASB).
WRITING
Writing is a vehicle that God has provided for me to use in both teaching and preaching. Writing allows me to reach a larger audience as I have been blessed to write Sunday school lessons and other lesson materials for a major publishing corporation. The ability to write helps me to organize my sermons for preaching and to outline the classes that I teach. This website was birthed on the belief that God was calling me to communicate His Word to a larger audience.
