Yesterday I had to do some repair work on a wheelchair. I recovered the parts that had come loose in the wheelchair. Although we more often would say “I’m lucky,” I said to my wife, “I’m blessed.” I had searched the carpet floor to find the missing pieces with no success. Then, I took something outside. I saw on the ground the two missing pieces. I was not looking for them. They were on the ground right in front of my eyes. I had to find the right tools to repair the wheelchair. When I had completed the job, I said aloud, “thank you daddy.”

I thanked my daddy because daddy taught me to do my best. He taught me persevere when things become difficult. Don’ be so quick to give up. Always have hope. So, I said “thank you daddy.”

In our text today the apostle Paul writes to the church: “We ought always to give thanks to God for you, brethren, as it is only fitting, because your faith is greatly enlarged, and the love of each one of you toward one another grows ever greater” (2 Thess. 1:3, NASB). Paul was writing to a church suffering from persecution. Paul commended the church because in spite of their hardships their faith continued to increase. Because of their faith in Jesus their lord their love for one another was steadfast. They continued to spread the gospel by their example seen by other people.

When I said, “thank you daddy,” I was also saying “thank you God.” God had given me a father that loved me, supported me, encouraged me, and taught me some good work ethics that have helped me in my life—oh, so many times. So, I give thanks to God for my daddy; and by the way there are others that I give thanks to God for.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for the many people that you placed in my life for my well being.
