“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek” (Rom. 1:16, NASB).
Former vice president of the Unites States, Joe Biden, repeatedly states that he is running for president for the “soul of America.” Biden sees a country divided and in danger of losing the values, principles, and policies that has enabled America to become the most powerful nation in the world. However, Biden believes that if America continues on its present path she will lose its status and influence in the world. Simply put, Biden wants to save America from the sins that lead to destruction.
This is not an endorsement for or against the vice president. I’m simply using his statement because Paul says that he preaches the gospel to save people from sin and eternal damnation. Paul preaches that all people regardless of their status in society have an opportunity to be included in a kingdom ruled by God. This kingdom is an everlasting kingdom. It is a kingdom in which all the hardships and pain experienced in this world does not exist (see Rev. 21:1-5). Vice president Biden says that he has a plan to end the threat of the coronavirus; the thing necessary in order to restore the prosperity of the country. Likewise, Paul says that he preaches the gospel because it is necessary for people to be saved from their sins.
I am saved from sin. No, I am not perfect. I heard the gospel preached and I came to faith in Jesus Christ. I have been vaccinated for sin by the Spirit of God that lives in me. I am saved from sin and this means more than going to heaven when I die. Salvation includes having the knowledge and power to resist and escape the many dangers that I am confronted with daily. Even when I die, the Spirit is a deposit for the guarantee that I have hope in the resurrection. I will see Jesus.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, I thank You for saving me from the sins that would destroy me? Amen
