“My life is continually in my hand, yet I do not forget Your law” (Ps. 119:109, NASB).

The coronavirus pandemic has caused a lot of debate and controversies in the land. People are not always sure of what they should do in regards to their health, life, and freedom. Questions include who should make decisions about the safety practices of all citizens. Who has the right to make decisions? Who has the responsibility to make the decisions? The COVID-19, delta variant has proven to be more infectious to children than other variants of the virus. This has increased the disagreements and debates about the safety of children, teachers, and other school workers. Should masks be mandated by law? Who has the authority to make a final determination?

Psalms 119 gives us instructions on how we that call ourselves Christians and disciples of Jesus Christ ought to make decisions for our lives. Yes, all of us in America has the freedom to decide for ourselves what we think is best. It is a responsibility that we cannot pass off to anyone else. The question is what or who is the authority in our lives that we make our decisions by? Psalm 119 is the longest chapter in the bible containing 176 verses. The psalm contains meditations and prayers relating to the Law of God. How do we respond to the Law of God?

In Psalm 119:105-112 the psalmist declares that the word of God; His law is the guiding light for life’s journey. It is not always easy to follow God’s law but it is the best way to live one’s life. Yes, the one who chooses to follow God’s law will be met with opposition. The important thing that one should remember is that following the Law is possible not because of head knowledge but because the law is in their heart. Those who love the law will be stable in their choices. In following the law one shields themselves from the evil ones. Life’s best choices are made when God’s law in our hearts guide our feet as we travel along life’s pathway.

Prayer: Lord God thank You for the guiding light of the word of God. Amen.
