There are a lot of controversies in our country. People are trying to convince others that they are right. You have to be right if you don’t want to be wrong. These are some of the controversies that are in headline news today. The Supreme Court of the United States has ruled against Roe vs Wade which gave women in every state the right to have an abortion. Their decision made abortion illegal although Roe vs Wade had been the law for fifty years. There have been demonstrations and acts of violence since the Supreme Court made its ruling. There is the controversy over second amendment rights for a person to carry a weapon. What about the right to have a Military styled weapon?

These two important issues seem to contradict each other based on who favors the issues. According to polls the same people that favor second amendment right are against abortion. They want to protect the unborn. On the other hand, those that favor abortion rights are basically the same people that want to modify in some way the second amendment rights. Sounds like that there are some inconsistencies here. Regardless, the question for everyone of us is this. Where do I stand and what is the basis of my decision.

What foundation am I standing on? I grew up hearing my parents and others talking about a sure foundation. What is a sure foundation?

At the ending of His teaching in the Sermon on the Mountain, Jesus told those that had heard Him that there were two foundations to make their choices by. The first foundation was solid and sure. It was like a rock. Those that build their lives on the teaching of Jesus are standing on a sure foundation. All other foundations are like sand; a foundation that will prove to be unsure when the storms of life head our way.

This means that all of our decisions must be made on the teaching of Jesus. I am standing on a sure foundation when I made my choices and decisions that are based on His words.

Prayer: Lord, Your word gives me a sure foundation to stand on. Amen.
