A new year is approaching. New Year’s Day is upon us. What will we do in the New Year? How will things be different? Although there are some things that remain permanent in our life, we will likely need to view these things from a new and different perspective. For example, our need to pray is continuous, but we may need to change our attitudes and behaviors about prayer. Are we preparing for the changes that will take place in our life in the New Year?
The Book of Deuteronomy is a book that record Moses’ preparing the Israelites for their new life in the new land that they are about to enter and possess. God is giving them the land so Moses is preparing them for life in the new land. How can they be successful? This is a question that you and I need to ask ourselves often. What do I need to do? What are some things that I need to incorporate into my life? Do I need to eliminate some things? What have I lost during this past year? What have I gained? What new responsibilities will I have?
Moses is giving the people God’s instructions for life in the new land that they are about to enter. God is giving them the land. They are to worship and serve Jehovah alone. The ways of Jehovah are not like the ways of their former masters, the Egyptians and their gods. The ways of Jehovah are not the ways of the gods of the people that live in the land. The Law of God is being taught to the people before they enter into the new land. Preparation is important for success. Hear the Lord. Learn His ways. Obediently act according to His ways.
Prayer: Lord, we seek You now so that we are prepared for the New Year and the new life that lies ahead. Amen.
