Luke 24:13-35
“They said to one another, ‘Were not our hearts burning within us while He was speaking to us on the road, while He was explaining the Scriptures to us?’” (Lk.24:32, NASB).
Former Secretary of State and presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has been accused of violating procedures and laws in regards to classified information. She is accused of using private email servers to communicate with others. The government intelligence persons and agencies are very secretive with the information that they have access to. To keep classified information from getting into the hands of others the government follows a policy that says do not share classified information with anyone that does not have a need to know. On the other hand, Jesus commands His disciples to take the gospel and spread the good news everywhere they go. Everyone is included regardless of their status in life. Everyone needs to know.
Luke 24:13-35 is an account of two friends going home. They are sad and disappointed because the one that they had thought was the Messiah had been crucified three days earlier. As they are walking on the road home, a stranger joins them and joins in on their conversation. When they tell the stranger what has taken place the stranger explains to them that the Messiah had to suffer and enter into His glory (v.26). “Then beginning with Moses and with all the prophets, He explained to them the things concerning Himself in all the scriptures” (v. 27).
The friends invite the stranger to their house. As they sat at meal Jesus breaks the bread, and their eyes are opened (by God) so that they recognize that the stranger is Jesus. Have you invited Jesus to your house? Have you dinned with Him? Has He opened your eyes? I pray that you answer is “yes’ because everyone has the need to know Jesus.
Prayer: Lord we thank you for Jesus who died for our sins. We thank you that you meet our need to know Him for the forgiveness of our sins. Amen.
