Colossians 3:16
“Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth” (Col. 3:2, NASB).
We are who we think that we are. We live according to who we think that we are. Many years ago I am going through a rough time in my life. I am sad and lonely. I feel lost and alone. One day as I am alone and feeling sorry for myself I ask myself this question: “Who are you?” I do not remember all the ways that I describe myself. Then, a profound thing happens. Perhaps it is a miracle of God. I answer my own question saying, “I am a Myles.” I think about my mom and dad. They have some tough times too. Yet, they do not despair. They have faith in their God. They keep going facing each day with anticipation that things will get better.
I am their child. I have brothers and sisters who are making it regardless of the circumstances in their lives. Now I feel better about myself just knowing that I am a Myles child. I will not give up. I will succeed. I will not allow tough times to get me down. I am a Myles child. I will do what a Myles child should do.
Paul writes to the saints at Colosse. He reminds them that they are children of God. They are to think about who they are and whose they are. They will no longer live according to the ways of the world. Instead they live by the wisdom that comes when the word of Christ dwells in us. They love one another. In everything that they do in word or deed they do in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father” (v.17).
Prayer: Lord we thank you for the wisdom that you give us through the teachings of Jesus. We desire to be like Jesus, live like Jesus, and love like Jesus to your glory. Amen.
