Psalm 30

“For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for a lifetime; Weeping may last for the night, But a shout of joy comes in the morning? (Ps. 30:5, NASB).

Psalm 30 is a song of David sung at the dedication of his house. David recalls his suffering during a period of illness. David remembers the pursuit of Saul as He sought to kill David. His enemies are numerous, and he has faced formidable foes. Such trials have caused David to shed many tears. Alas, God gives him victory over disease and enemies. As David remembers the past, his mind begins to look forward to the remainder of his life that he anticipates will be filled with joy in his own new house.

Christians live in a dark world. We often experience night times in our life. At the end of each night experience the words of the psalmist assures us that the day is coming and we will have joy. This psalm has an eschatological meaning also. Our life on earth is like night time. Jesus is coming back. He has a room waiting for us in His kingdom. When that time comes it will be a morning of joy.

Prayer; Lord God, we thank you for Your Spirit that watches over us during the nights of our life. We thank You God for Jesus who gives us a room where we will experience joy forever. Amen.
