1 Corinthians 2:14-16 “For who has known the mind of the Lord, that he will instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ” (1 Cor. 2:16). Everyone thought that Richard would be the next starting quarterback for the football team. The coaches had given him opportunities for experience in game situations. Richard had all the physical qualities needed, and he had demonstrated that he knew how to utilize his skills and knowledge. When the head coach announced the starters for the first game of the season he named Caldwell to be the starting quarterback. What happened to Richard the players thought? Caldwell had no experience. He had come out for the teams two weeks before the season begin. His physical size and skills were not as impressive as those of Richard. What happened? During the two weeks of practice before the start of the season Caldwell quickly learned to run the offense. When the coach would put him in a game like situation Caldwell would call the same play that the coach would have in mind. Caldwell demonstrated that he thought like the coach. It seemed that Caldwell had the mind of the coach. Today, Christians are in similar situations much like the Christians at Corinth. They were knowledgeable of the Greek philosophies and wisdom. Paul writes to tell them that they cannot rely on human wisdom. They must rely on the Spirit so that they can think like Christ. They are to have the mind of Christ. The mind of Christ is not found in the wisdom of men. The mind of Christ does not come to us through memorizing bible verses, reading informative and inspiring books. The mind of Christ comes to us through the Spirit of Christ. Prayer: Lord God we thank you for Jesus who died for our sins. We desire to have the mind of Christ so that we might be able to accept the things of God. Amen
