Genesis 18:9-15

Abram is seventy-five years old, and his wife Sarai is sixty-five when they obey the voice of the Lord. They leave their home and go to a land that God promises to give to them through their descendants. It is twenty-four years later and the aged couple has no children. Her name changed to Sarah, she is barren and has no hope of having a child. Her husband whose name is changed to Abraham is also too old to produce a child.

Now that they are barren, the angel of the Lord visits the couple. The angel tells Abraham that he will visit Sarah in a year and she will have a son. Sarah laughs when she hears what the man says to Abraham. Sarah does not want to embarrass her husband and the man that is talking to Abraham, so she hides as she laughs. The man is saying something that anyone should know is humanly impossible. The angel assures the couple that Sarah will have a son in a year’s time. He asks Sarah if there is anything too difficult for God to do. A year later, Sarah gives birth to a son and they name him Isaac.

Has God commanded you to do anything that is impossible for you to do? The bible has many stories in which God calls someone to do something beyond their own abilities. In circumstances that require more than we can do of our own capabilities, we can move at God’s command. We can be sure that we will accomplish the goal because there is nothing too difficult for God.

Prayer: Lord we are thankful that you are our God. You are able to make the impossible possible because your abilities are unlimited. Amen.
