John 15:1-7
‘“I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing”’ (John 15:5, NASB).
It is important that we keep our body hydrated. Our bodies are about ninety-eight percent water. Every muscle, every organ, and every cell requires water in order to function normally. The lack of water can lead to dry skin, muscle fatigue, organ failure, and even death. When it comes to our spiritual life where do we get the water necessary for optimal function and life? Jesus tells us to abide in Him just as the branches are connected to the vine. The branches receive water and nutrients from the vine. When we stay connected to Jesus we are being hydrated by His Spirit. We are able to produce fruit but disconnected we cannot produce any fruit. Jesus warns us of the consequences of spiritual dehydration (v. 6), and the blessings of staying hydrated (v. 7).
Prayer: Lord we thank you for Your Spirit that keeps us spiritually hydrated. We deny ourselves so that we may be connected to you. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.
