1 Corinthians 2:2
Everyone has an opinion. It has been said, “Opinions are like heads, and everybody has one.” The apostle Paul receives news that the church at Corinth is having difficulties because they are divided over many things. Paul responds to their questions by writing this letter. The Greeks were wisdom seekers and they worshiped many gods (Acts 17). Paul asserts that wisdom comes from God. He writes that his message is not about arguing about the wisdom of this age and the philosophers of the age. Instead, he has separated the preaching of the cross of Christ from all other philosophies and religious beliefs. He says, “And when I came to you, brethren, I did not come with superiority of speech or of wisdom, proclaiming to you the testimony of God. For I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified” (1 Cor. 2:1-2, NASB). Paul knows that salvation is possible only because Jesus died on the cross to save sinners. This is the message of the church to the world.
Prayer: Father in heaven, we thank you that your Son Jesus died for our sins. May we live every day with this truth in mind? Amen.
