Titus 2:1-5 “For there are many rebellious men, empty talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision, who must be silenced because they are upsetting whole families, teaching things they should not teach for the sake of sordid gain” (Titus 1:10-11, NASB). Paul writes a letter to his young associate Titus who is in Crete instructing him to ordain elders in the church (1:5). The church is made up of new converts who had worshiped other gods. These new converts will need to learn Godly values so that their lives can be pure for God (2:14). In this situation it is the responsibility of the church elders to teach sound doctrine to the parents. Parents in turn are to teach the commands, precepts and values to their children. One should not get confused by the roles of women and wives in the culture at that time. Instead, Paul is writing so that the people of God can know how God expects His people to live regardless of the societal structure. The emphasis in the book of Titus is to teach us Godly values.
