Romans 8:31-39 “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us” (Rom. 8:31, NASB)? The book of Romans is the Apostle Paul’s theological treatises. It is Paul’s formal account of his belief about God in relationship to humanity and especially to those who have believed in Jesus Christ for their salvation; the forgiveness of their sins and their hope for eternal life. In chapter eight Paul begins by saying, “Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Sin no longer has control over the life of those who believe in Jesus. Sin has no control over us now and it will have no control in the future. Since God is for us there is no power that can be against us (v. 31). Paul tells us in verses 33-34 that God has the last word in the lives of men, and especially that of the believers. Paul says that nothing can separate us from the love of Christ (v. 35) including death (v.36). In spite of the trials and tribulations that we experience, we “overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us” (v.37). These words of Paul are not limited to life after death. When we allow Jesus to be our Savior and Lord we live for His purposes. We become overwhelmingly conquers in everything that the Lord commissions us to do. With His Word to guide us; His Spirit to give us strength to persevere we will never give up.
