Matthew 6:13-14 The question is asked: “If you should die tonight, where will you spend eternity?” From the beginning God gives humanity the responsibility to make choices. They must choose whether or not to eat from the forbidden tree in the midst of the garden (Gen. 2:16-17). Of course the man and his wife eat from the forbidden tree and die a spiritual death; they are separated from God. God drives them from the garden (Gen. 3:23) and stations an angel to guard the tree of life (v. 24). Is there any hope for humanity? Jesus gives us another chance to make the right decision. We must choose the gate that we will enter. The broad gate leads to destruction. Most people enter through it. The narrow gate provides an entrance to life and only a few find it. How can we find the narrow gate? Jesus says, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through me” (John 14:6). Those who find Jesus and believe in Him enter into the narrow gate and will receive eternal life. Prayer: God, our Father, thank you for another chance to live with you. We believe in Jesus and we are filled with joy that through the Gospel we have found the gate that leads to life. Amen.
