Ephesians 5 “Therefore do not be partakers with them; for you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as Children of Light” (Eph. 5:7-8). Before we become Christians forgiven of our sins, we live in darkness. Darkness is used metaphorically in the New Testament to mean ignorance or lack of knowledge of God. This means that we have no knowledge of God and the way of life that He designed for us before the creation of the world. Jesus comes to give us light; knowledge of God and a new relationship with God. We are to imitate God because we are now His children by faith in Jesus whose death on the cross redeems us from our sins. When we become imitators of God we are committed to moral standards and ethics far better than those accepted by those who live according to the ways of the world. “Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise” (Eph. 5:15). When we imitate God we know that we are pleasing Him. Prayer: Lord God, we open our hearts and minds to you. We desire to know you; to know how to live our lives to please you. We are your children and we ask that your Holy Spirit will teach us and empower us to live for you. Amen.
