John 3:16-18 Nicodemus a Pharisee comes to Jesus at night. He wants to talk to Jesus about His ministry. He sees Jesus healing people that have incurable diseases. He must be from God to be able to perform these miracles. Jesus does not want to talk about miracles because miracles do not reconcile a person to God. So, Jesus changes the subject. He tells Nicodemus that he must be born again to see the kingdom of God. Now, Nicodemus is a highly respected Pharisee. He is a master teacher. He knows the Law, and it is likely that he put forth his best efforts to live by the Law. Jesus knows that the Law cannot save this good man from his sins. He must be born again. He must receive God’s Spirit. The only way that Nicodemus can receive God’s Spirit is to believe that God loves the world and sent His Son into the world to give His life for the sins of everyone who believes in Jesus. There is no other way to be saved from sin. Prayer; Our God, Father of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, we thank you for your love for us which was demonstrated to us through the death of Jesus on the cross. We confess our need for a savior, and we believe that Jesus is the Son of God, the Savior of the world.
