‘“Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven”’ (Matt. 5:16, NASB). How can the church and the clergy best help to solve the problems that are in the world? How can we work with government and civic organizations to bring about change in the culture? Should the church be under the control and guidance of the world? Jesus taught that the way to social justice and cultural response is through the light that allows men and women to see the true nature of the situation. This light comes from God, and it is given to persons who know God and His ways. Jesus is the true light that comes into the world. Those who believe in Him are given His light. Those who believe in Jesus are given the responsibility to do things according to God’s word. To do otherwise is to put the light under a basket where no one can see it. We must shine our light from the lamp stand so that everyone can come to the knowledge of God. Prayer: Lord Jesus we thank you for giving us light to see by as we are challenged by the problems that we face in the world. May our light shine in this dark world so that people everywhere can see that your ways are right and leads to life and peace? Amen.
