Devotional: Money or God

‘“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth” (Matt. 6:24, NASB). The bills are due and we are beginning to run short of money. At the same time there are some personal items that I want to buy for myself. What should I do to get enough money to pay the bills? This is a personal dilemma, and it is a great concern for a lot of people. This is a legitimate concern. However, the question is whether we will allow money to control us or will we control the money. Jesus warns us not to value money to the extent that we place a higher value on things that money buys than the value we place on righteous living. We should not allow our desire for earthly goods to replace our devotion to God. The place that we put our treasures tells us where our hearts are. We cannot serve two masters. We must make a choice. Prayer: Lord we thank you for providing for our needs. Instead of trusting in ourselves, may we put our trust in you? Amen
