James 1:21-25 “But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves” (James 1:22, NASB). The book of James is a book of Christian morals and ethics. What are our values? How do we conduct ourselves in various situations? Do we think more highly of ourselves than we should? James tells us that temptations will reveal who we really are. We are not just who we say that we are. We are what we do. If we will do what is right in the eyes of God we must remain humble. Our humility is made known when we look at ourselves and see ourselves for who we are. We must prove our humility by what we do. God does not tempt us to sin (v. 13), but we are tempted by our own lusts (v. 14). So we must “in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls” (v. 21). We cannot be just hearers of the word; rather we must be doers of the word. Those who do the word will be blessed. Prayer: God, bless us to remain humble so that we will be able to live by your word. Amen.
