Revelation 22:7

‘“And behold, I am coming quickly. Blessed is he who heads the words of the prophecy of this book”’ (Rev. 22:7, NASB).

Growing up and even in my adult life I have heard people express their understanding that the book of Revelation is a book of doom and gloom. The signs and disturbances in nature are God’s wrath upon the earth for people’s sins. I have come to understand that the signs and wonders are reminders for the people of faith that Jesus is still in control of all things and He is coming again. The apostle John wrote this book to seven churches while he was in exile because he stood for the word of God. The churches that he wrote to were churches that were being persecuted for their faith in Jesus Christ. The book was written to encourage people of faith to persevere in their trials, tribulations, and hardships because God is in control, and He is faithful to His promises. Those who heed the words of this prophecy are blessed. We can be encouraged by knowing that our names are “written in the Lamb’s book of life” (Rev. 21:27).

Prayer: Lord God we pray that you will give us a spirit to encourage others so that we might be effective in making known that your desire is that all people are saved. Amen.
