Psalm 32 When I was a child we were taught to say “I’m sorry” whenever we did something wrong to another person. I remember that I understood that the lesson was that I had done something to that person that caused them harm. I needed to take responsibility for my behavior and it should remind me to try my best to not do anything to hurt another person. It was a good feeling when you could make up with your friend. Psalm 32 is attributed to King David. David had Uriah the Hittite killed because he had used his status as king to have sexual relationship with Uriah’s wife Bathsheba. The narrative account of David’s life after Uriah’s death gives us few details (2 Sam. 11). God sent Nathan the prophet to confront David about his sins (2 Sam. 12:1-15). Psalm 51 and Psalm 32 are songs written by David that express his confession of his sins and his desire that God will extend mercy to Him. In Psalm 32 David acknowledges that it is a blessing to be forgiven of sin. To live with sin in our hearts is a burden. When we confess our sin God forgives our sin. Instead of being sad and depressed we experience joy and we praise God for the blessing and we want to tell others that we are blessed when God forgives our sins. Prayer: God our Father thank you for you love and tender mercies. Thank you for your Spirit that reminds us that you are a God who forgives sins. Amen.
