“There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus” (Gal. 3:28, NASB). In Genesis 4 we learn how the human family becomes divided. Cain murders his brother Abel. God punishes Cain and drive him from His presence and the presence of his family (vv. 9-12). From that day until now people have are divided into groups that struggle against each other. In the early church some of the Jews believe that God is their God alone. They believe that the Law is given to them only because God favors the Jews alone for Himself. They believe that God categorizes people; ranking them in the world according to their standing before God. Jews are above Greeks. The free man is above the slave. The male is above the female. Does this sound like many in America today? In the gospels Jesus comes to save the world; not just some special people in the world. All sin whether they have the Law or live without the Law. Since no one keeps the Law, God justifies those who have faith in Jesus Christ whose death on the cross is the atoning sacrifice for all people. If Paul were writing to the churches in America he would likely say that there is no difference between whites and people of color; no difference between Christian and Muslim; no difference between gay and straight. All are guilty of sin, and all are saved by their turning to Jesus for their salvation. Prayer: Lord we thank you that you make no difference between people according to the world’s standards. We thank you for Jesus who died for all people. May this be the testimony of all who know you to the world that does not know you? Amen.
