Philippines 2:1-5 “Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men” (1 Cor. 1:25, NASB). It has been said that conflicts cannot be avoided but they can be managed. In my encounter with Chris there was a conflict. Since I am his teacher assigned to assist him in his needs it is also my responsibility to manage the conflicts. How did I manage this conflict? I allowed Chris the opportunity to ventilate his feelings and express his beliefs. Philippines 2 have always been an important Bible passage in my life. I thought about Chris’ needs and made them the priority in considering actions that I should take. Instead of making judgmental statements to Chris I allowed him to have his way at this time. I hoped that I would build a relationship of trust between us. Special Needs children have serious problems. They have learning disabilities and I do not know all of the circumstances in their lives. My job is to assure them that I am here to help them in any way that I can if they will allow me. I pray that God will help me to help this young man. The next morning, Thursday, Chris saw me. He looked at me and smiled. He came over and gave me a hug. Chris still has his moments of needing to prove himself to me and others. His teacher and I are striving to get him to let go of his pride and allow us to help him. Pray for all of us.
