1 Peter 1-15 Christmas has different meanings to different people. As Christians we should prioritize what the birth of Jesus means to our lives. Our relationship to God and our access to His promises are found in Jesus. Jesus was born the Son of God whose mother was Mary, a young virgin who found favor with God. In 1 Peter, Peter writes to a church that is persecuted. According to world standards they should be filled with anxiety and fear. Peter greets them with grace and peace that comes through “the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord” v. 2, NASB). This peace is made possible because they have received God’s divine power and His divine nature (vv. 3-4).
God’s divine power and His divine nature make us aware that God is ever involved in our lives. The divine power and divine nature produces moral excellence and knowledge of God (v. 5). As a result we extend to all people and especially to other believers brotherly kindness and love. Thus, for the Christian, Christmas is not so much what we wish to receive; rather it is that we offer the love and kindness that God has given to us. God bless you as you celebrate Jesus in this season!
