Acts 17:10-12 We live in a world that is much like the one that the apostles preached to in the first century A.D. There are people who want to hold on to their old customs and traditions. They are not willing to learn the truth because it calls for them to make changes in their lives. Acts 17 records the work of Paul in Thessalonica, Berea, and Athens. In Thessalonica Paul argued from the Scriptures that Jesus is the Christ. While some believed others did not. Paul and Silas were forced to leave Thessalonica and the brethren sent them to Berea. In Berea the people heard Paul. They did not overreact to Paul’s message. Instead they searched the Scriptures to see if Paul and Silas were preaching the truth about the Christ.

The people of Berea offer us an example of how we should respond to the preaching and teaching that we hear. The Scriptures are the inspired Word of God. It is God breathed (2 Timothy 3:16) and they are to be used for our correction, training, and reproof so that we can be equipped for every good work as we journey from our mountain to the Promised Land that God is about to give to us. Let us search the Scriptures so that we can know the truth of God.
