Proverbs 3:5-6

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight” (Prov. 3:5-6, NASB).

Pride, arrogance, and the desire to have control over our own life can cause us to destroy ourselves by making wrong choices. We think that we know what is best for us. We want to exercise our presumed right to determine the way we will live our lives. In the book of Proverbs the father gives his son sound advice on how to live his life to the fullest. The father throughout the book lifts up various life situations and offers advice on how to respond to various circumstances that the son will face. The advice given here is that the son should not be reactive to life circumstances. Rather, he is to be proactive. He is to decide in advance that He will trust God more than his own wisdom. He is to acknowledge that God’s ways are far better than his own. Whereas his own knowledge and understanding are limited, God is not limited in any way. If He will acknowledge God, God will direct him to leave the paths of evil and travel the paths of wisdom and understanding.
