Read 1 Corinthians 2:10-16
“But if any of you lack wisdom, let him ask God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him” (James 1:5, NASB).
The church at Corinth was divided over many issues. This was a gifted church, but they foolishly argued over which gift(s) was most important. They made their appeal to superiority based on which teacher they were following, Peter, Apollos, Paul, and Jesus. Paul wrote to tell these Christians that their way of arguing was based on human wisdom. If they had the wisdom of God they would know that Christ is not divided. Each teacher was doing only what the Spirit had assigned them to do. All of them had as his goal to carry out the will of God.
The Christians were not living according to the wisdom of God. Instead, they were living by the wisdom of the world. According to the wisdom of the world, there are distinctions among people so as to determine which person is the greatest. The wisdom of God calls for unity in the Spirit of Christ Jesus and no person is greater than another in the kingdom of God regardless of their role. Unity will serve as a testimony of God’s redemptive love given by God’s grace through Jesus Christ.
Lord, teach us to seek your wisdom in all of our life’s decisions. Amen!
